General

  1. Q: What is Translatious?
A: Translatious is a website that aids its users in collaborative translation projects. Users with text to be translated post their text as a project and other multilingual users translate sections of the text for a small fee.

  2. Q: How can I make money with Translatious?
A: Right now you cannot make money with Translatious. Although Translatious is intended to allow users to pay for translation projects and, conversely, receive payment for translating others' project, the system is still in Beta Testing. This means that, until Translatious is released for widescale use, the payment system consists entirely of points.

  3. Q: What terms of use are there for Translatious users?
A: Read about the Terms of Use here.

Posting

  1. Q: How do you post a project on Translatious?
A: Select the "Post Project" link under the "My Projects" tab on the menu bar at the top of the page. Next, fill out the "to" and "from" languages along with a description of the project, the text itself, and a price that you are willing to pay for the project.

  2. Q: What can I do if my translation is not being translated?
A: Users can modify their projects after they have been posted to change the description and to change the price of their project to make it more lucrative for translators. The price can only be raised, not lowered, after the project has been posted. You can access this feature by viewing a project found on the "My Projects" tab.

  3. Q: Can I view the project before it is completed?
A: No. You must first pay before you can view the translation of your project. If you must gain access to the translation before it is completed, you must end the project early and cash out. This can be done from the

Translating

  1. Q: How do I find projects to translate?
A: When you click on the "Translate" tab on the menu bar, you will be presented with a list of projects that fit your listed known languages. You may also use the search feature to find projects.

  2. Q: How do I actually translate?
A: When viewing a potential project to work on, press the "Translate" button. You will be provided with a sentence to translate in bold letters, surrounted by the paragraph to which the sentence belongs. Enter your translation in the surrounding text box and click the "Submit" button before the provided timer runs out. You will automatically be provided with the next untranlated sentence in the project. You may press the "Skip" button to pass on translating the supplied sentence and continue to the next available sentence in the project or the "Stop" button to finish working on the project.

  3. Q: Can I still make money if I'm not multilingual?
A: Yes. Once sentences have been translated, their validity must be verified by checking two potential translations and comparing their likeness. This task requires only that you understand the destination language of a project. To perform this duty, press the "Confirm" button when viewing a project for translation work.

  4. Q: Why am I being timed when I translate or confirm? Can I have more time?
A: One of Translatious's goals is to provide quality translations within a short amount of time. We have instituted a "lock" system such that a user can only be translating or confirming one sentence at a time, and the lock is only valid for a set amount of time. This is to prevent people from locking a sentence and then not translating, which would block legitimate users from translating or confirming the sentence and the project would never get completed. You may add more time by clicking the "add more time" link next to the timer.
