Translatious Terms of Use
Here at Team Translatious you will find not a group
of deviously clever legal experts or shrewd businessmen
trying to weasel time and money out of you, but rather
a group of Computer Science students with an interest
in creating a project that is both useful and fun to
work with. It is not in our interests to make life
difficult for you, the user, and we expect the same
courtesy from you. Translatious is, in fact, all about
the users, so your experiences with the site are highly
dependent upon the conduct of you and other users.
With that in mind, the terms of use for using
Translatious include pledges by both the Translatious
Team and you, the user. By creating an account, you
agree to abide by these pledges or face penalties
ranging from a warning to expulsion from the site or
even legal measures if the case is extreme enough to
warrant them. Just because we are not a crack team of
deviously clever legal experts does not mean that we
do not take your obligations to us and (ours to you)
seriously.
We (Translatious) agree to...
- "not be evil," to borrow
Google's
phrase. This includes:
- keeping your personal information (including
name, email address, and financial information )
safe from third parties,
- keeping Translatious from being over-run by
third party content that interferes with your
site usage
If for some reason in the future information from
Translatious's database is used for academic or research
purposes, the data will be used anonymously.
- mediate any user disputes in a fair and timely
fashion. Because user information is not available to
other users, all disputes must go through
Translatious, and we will give due time and consideration
to all of them.
- provide some quality checking on translations.
Because the site is almost completely user-driven, there
can be no absolute assurances that your translated text
will be perfect; however, systems like Translatious have
worked well in the past, and we currently employ the
"two-translators-one-confirmer" system for quality
checking.
You (the user) agree to...
- not use Translatious to transmit illegal or
copyrighted material. We know that these are tricky
legal seas to navigate, but if you have any doubts
about your legal claim to the material you are considering,
seek legal counsel before transmitting it. We at
Translatious do not provide legal counseling.
- not try to "game" the system by using it in a way
that is not intended. If you're trying to do something
other than what the site explicitly states as its
functionality, you probably shouldn't be.
- provide translations that are accurate to the
best of your abilities. If you are unsure how to translate
a particular block of text, it is better to skip that
text rather than submit a faulty translation. Over the
long run, poor translations will lead to a decline in the
use of the site which means less projects will be posted
and less opportunities for translating available in
the future! It therefore is in your own interest to
provide the high-quality service that we expect.
Lastly, these terms of use can be changed by a
Translatious administrator without notice (although that
probably won't happen all that often). It is in your
interest to keep up-to-date on this page.
