Translatious Tour

Welcome to the Translatious open beta test! Here are instructions on how to begin using Translatious:

Registration

In order to begin using Translatious, you must first register for a user account at http://trans.latio.us/user/signup.

You will need to provide your first and last name, a unique login id, a valid email address and a password. The password must be between 5 and 40 characters long.

After submitting your registration request, you will receive a confirmation email. You will not be able to log in to Translatious until you go to the special confirmation URL specified in the email. Please check your email after signing up.

User Setup

After you have confirmed your email, you may set up your account. You should enter all of the languages that you understand into your user account. This will allow you to translate text between all of the languages you know. If you only know one language, you may skip this step.

Posting a New Translation Project

To post a new project, go to http://trans.latio.us/post. Please fill in all forms as indicated:

Description of Text: A short description of the subject of the project text.

From Language: The language that the text is currently in.

To Language: The language that you wish the project to be translated to.

Project Cost: The total amount of "points" that the project is worth. As of the open beta period, points are just an arbitrary number.

Text to be translated: This is the body text that you wish to be translated. It must be formatted in a special way for Translatious to recognize the sentences and paragraphs. Please format your text as follows:

To denote an end of sentence, type a period followed by two spaces. A typical sentence will look like this (minus the brackets): [Henrietta, I had a wonderful time last night. ]

To denote a new paragraph, type two new line characters.

Translation Notes: If you would like your text translated a certain way, please indicate your preferences here. For example, you might want all Japanese honorifics to be retained in the English translation of your text.

Once the project has been submitted, qualified users will be able to start translating the project sentence by sentence.

Viewing Your Project

To see the progress that is being made on your project, go to http://trans.latio.us/my_projects. From here, you can see how much percentage of a project is complete. You can also view projects that have been completed.

Translating a Project

Once you have set up all of your languages, you may begin translating any available projects at http://trans.latio.us/translate. Only projects match your own known languages will appear. You may also search for projects at http://trans.latio.us/search.

You will be presented with a list of languages at the main translate page. By clicking on "view," you will be taken to the project view page. From there, you may choose to translate, confirm, or decline the project.

Choosing translate will bring you to the sentence translation interface. Your job will be to translate the bolded text from the source language into the requested language. You will have a limited amount of time to translate the sentence, though you may request additional time. Once you are done translating the sentence, you may submit the sentence. At any time during the translation process, you may also skip a sentence or stop translating completely.

Confirming a Project

Sentences that are translated for a project must subsequently be confirmed. You may choose to help confirm sentences in the project view page. When confirming, you will be given two sentences. First, you must decide if the sentences are close in meaning. If they are completely different, click on "neither." If they are close in meaning, pick the sentence that makes more sense or is better formed.
